Diversity & Inclusion Strategy 2025–2030

Our first long-term strategy for embedding equity across everything we do.

Applied Microbiology International's first-ever Diversity & Inclusion Strategy sets out our vision and priorities for equity, inclusion and belonging across the organisation and the wider microbiology community. Developed by AMI’s cross-functional D&I Committee with support from staff, trustees and members, this strategy covers the period 2025–2030.

It outlines the steps we’ve already taken to improve representation, access and culture - including the formation of a D&I Committee, blind recruitment, inclusive events programming, and the Dorothy Jones D&I Achievement Award - as well as our future goals for inclusive governance, global representation, accessible publishing, community engagement and equitable funding. The strategy includes measurable objectives across all departments (governance, HR, marketing, publishing, events, membership and grants). It also introduces new benchmarks and invites feedback from our members to shape future progress.
