Microbes and Social Equity: 2025 Speaker Series
How do microbes connect with justice, health, and access to resources? This monthly speaker series brings together researchers and community voices to explore the many ways microbial life intersects with social equity, such as the microbiome’s role in human and environmental health and the systems that shape who benefits from scientific knowledge and innovation. Running from January to December 2025, events are held on the last Wednesday of each month, 12:00–14:00 ET, via Zoom. Each session features a guest speaker followed by an informal gathering hosted by MSE for discussion, reflection, and connection. Everyone is welcome. Topics range across environmental microbiomes, food systems, health disparities, and microbiome-informed policy. The series aims to spark ideas, share emerging research, and strengthen a growing community committed to more equitable microbial futures. Registration is free but required.
This series is financially supported by the University of Maine Institute of Medicine and the UMaine Cultural Affairs/Distinguished Lecture Committee.
